People seem to believe the
‘ember months’ are associated with
disaster, several myths or superstitions are attached to these months. Like I said in my last post I believe such mishaps are more common towards the end of
the year because people are obsessed to end the year with enough cash to spend
during the festive period. Some are in hurry to get things done and move from
one place to another without giving regards for their safety and that of others
resulting in a lot of mishaps.
Your choice and the
decisions you make now will determine how the rest of the year will turn out. Above all things, choose to flourish. Here are 7 things to keep
you happy:
Show gratitude
Are you asking: How has
time flown by so quickly? When did we start this year? You may not have
achieved your set goals for the year but you have a lot to be grateful for. The
gift of sleeping and waking up is enough to be thankful for, not to talk of
having a roof over your head and food on your table. Thank God for his grace
over you and your family and every other thing shall follow. This is a time to
show gratitude, not a time to compare your family with the Adebanjos or the
Igwes.
Re-strategize
Put your plans in action
now. Avoid last minute rush, this should be the time for stock taking and
assessment. Are there goals that you’ve been trying to achieve that hasn’t
materialized yet, now is the time to re-strategize to ensure your goals are met
before the end of the year.
Take Precautions
The events of the end of
the year keep everyone busy both at home and in the work place. Be careful at
work, use machines/work gadgets according to instructions, put out all
appliances before you leave the office. Take precautions at home to prevent
hazards, pay attention when cooking and put off all electrical appliances when
not in use. Keep electrical appliances away from toddlers’ reach and teach
older kids how to safely use appliances.
Drive safely/Ensure you are driven safely
A lot of road accidents
are usually recorded towards the end of the year, occurring mostly especially
with commercial transport vehicles because the drivers overload their vehicles
and over speed so as to increase the number of trips per day in a bid to make
more money. If you are at the wheels, consider your life and that of your
passengers. Obey traffic rules and regulations, take proper precautions on the
highway, prevention is better than cure. Ensure you have all your vehicle documents.
The law enforcing agencies, FRSC, VIO are everywhere now; don’t let your car be
pawned, you need your car to run around for Christmas.
Be Security Conscious
Security is a collective responsibility;
don’t leave it just for the police, vigilantes. Protect yourself and your
family. Be conscious who you leave the kids with when you are out and about. Be
conscious of strange people in your neighborhood, watch out when you drive in
and out of your house. Be consistent with your bank’s guidelines and
regulations on activities involving your accounts. Avoid making calls in the
presence of strangers about money you want to make or pick up, and avoid coming
out of the bank holding or displaying conspicuous bulky parcels like brown
envelopes or polythene bags.
Don’t be Anxious
Things are so expensive in
Nigeria lately, it’s normal to be worried especially if things have not fallen
in place now, avoid worrying too much about making money so as not to fall into
the wrong hands. Worrying solves no problem but may deteriorate your health. Be
patient and be careful in all your dealings.
Forget the myth
Forget the myth, tragedy
will not be my portion and yours. ‘Ember’ months are the seasons of reflection,
plenty harvest, Christmas and preparations for the New Year. Even the Sallah (Ileya)
festival is in September this year. This is the time for celebration. Keep calm
and celebrate!
What are the things you do
to keep you and your family happy?
It's true, there's a rush and sometimes unrealistic reasons to end the year on the 'high note'. Please let everyone take it easy, work steadily and look up to God for His blessings and favour.

ReplyDeleteNice one
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your thoughts. I have also wondered why the "ember" months often generate mixed feelings for everyone but like you said rejoicing will be our portion in Jesus name, Amen. Thanks for the ember advice @ family tool box.
