No ways! This year 2016 month of March wouldn’t end without
me mentioning the women’s history month. The Women history month officially started
on the 1st of March and ends today, 31st of March. March,
2016 is unarguably the month for the women folk as other events were also
celebrated this March around the world.
Which of the events made
an impact on you the most? Here is a list of #5 Women events that marked the
month.
1. Mother’s
day (March 6th)
Mother’s day celebrates motherhood
and mother figures in our lives. It holds on different dates in different
countries. In the UK & Ireland, Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the fourth
Sunday of Lent (precisely on the 3rd Sunday before Easter Sunday) and
Naija too is not left out (that is story for another day). Some other countries such as the United States
and Canada celebrate on the second Sunday in May (This year’s Mother’s day will
fall on Sunday May 8th). So come 8th of May, we will celebrate again
(trust Naija), but really mothers should be celebrated every day, don’t you
think?
2. International
women’s day (March 8th ) #IWD
The year 2016’s campaign theme
is the pledge for parity and was marked with leaders across the world pledging
to take actions as champions of gender parity.
3. WIMBIZ
(Women in Management, Business and Public service).
WIMBIZ
is a Nigerian non-profit organization for networking women in leadership areas in
the workplace and in business. It held its annual conference with the
theme “Crisis of values: Reclaiming our society.”
4. United
Nations Commission on the status of women (UNCSW)
It’s
an arm of the United Nations dedicated to gender equality and women empowerment.
It also held its conference at the New York Headquarters
5. Can
I regard to this as an event? The Gender equality bill that was passed and rejected by the
National Assembly causing so much uproar in the country at a time when other
countries are pledging to be leaders in gender parity.
Did I miss out any? As a mother,
wife, sister, daughter, aunt, father, brother,
husband, uncle, or son, which one made an impact on you the most and why?
mother's day can never be compromised.
