Let girls be girls. Let’s unlock their positive potentials.
Today, October 11, 2016 is
the International Day of the Girl Child. The day, declared by the United Nations
is observed globally to create awareness of the need for parents, families and
the communities to support the rights and progress of the girl child.
This year’s theme is “Girls’ Progress = Goals’ progress: A
Global Girl Data Movement. To fulfill the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals),
the theme is aimed at improving data on girls and addressing the issues that
are holding them back.
One of the important
issues that were raised this year about the girl child is the issue of Child marriage.
Girls who become child brides miss out on education, are forced to bear
children before they are physically and emotional ready and are also vulnerable
to physical and sexual violence.
I believe it is important
to encourage our daughters to achieve their dreams without fear or
discrimination. A ranking of about 144 countries by the savethechildren.org put Sweden at the top of the list of the best
places in the world that give girls the opportunity to shape their futures and
reach their full potentials. The UK on number 15 while the USA ranks on number 32.
Which country in the world
do you think is the best a girl can achieve all her dreams without fear
or discrimination?
Happy International Day of
the Girl Child 2016.

The spirit of gender equality is the first leveler for encouraging the girl child to aspire in reaching and achieving her dreams without fear or discrimination. Any country that supports this believe is the best for the girl child in exploring her potentials.
