#WorldFoodDay: Why You Should Join The Campaign

Everyone must eat to survive!
Today, 16th October is #WorldFoodDay! It’s a day to address global food issues. My thoughts are on the food issues in our own community and the reason I think the World Food Day Campaign should be everyone’s concern.

The 2016 global message for the #WorldFoodDay is “Climate is changing, Food and Agriculture must too”.

Why should this issue of food security be everyone’s worry?

Climate change is putting agriculture and food production generally at risk. If we do not take action now, very soon there may not be enough food to go round, more so that the world population is growing increasingly and is expected to be up to 9.6 billion by the year 2050.

Food wastage is very rampant; from the point of production, harvesting food crops, storage, transportation and even when it finally gets to our homes. We have to avoid throwing food away, do your bit by reducing wastage of food in your household.

The world food day is a time to take action against hunger and poverty and to remember that hunger is real. Hunger knows no friend, it can happen to anyone. There are many people in Nigeria and all over the world that cannot get to eat once in a day talk less of eating three square meals. America is one of the richest countries in the world, nevertheless some Americans do not have enough food to eat.

It’s a day to pledge that you will do everything in your capacity to put an end to hunger in our life time starting from your own household. You do not have to be a seasoned farmer to learn how to grow your own vegetables to sustain your family.

It’s a day to bring your family and friend’s attention to farming, food and hunger. The price of food items is increasing on a daily basis in our community. How much is a bag of rice again?

It’s #WorldFoodDay. Take Action Against Hunger!

Share your thoughts on what action you are taking to end hunger in our lifetime.

Yours truly,
