Mother’s day is the
day for families to show their appreciation to their mothers, a day set aside
to celebrate motherhood and the mother figures in our lives such as grandmothers,
godmothers, etc.
Mother’s Day falls on
different dates in different countries. In the UK, Ireland, Nigeria and some
other countries, Mothering Sunday (as Mother’s day is also called) is
celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent (the Christian period of fast) - precisely
on the 3rd Sunday before Easter Sunday.
Other countries such as the
United States and Canada celebrate on the second Sunday in May while the French
celebrate on the last Sunday in May. (This year’s Mother’s day in the US will
fall on Sunday May 14th). So come 14th of May, we will
celebrate again (trust Naija). But really mothers should be celebrated every
day, don’t you think? We cannot over celebrate our mums.
What can you do for
your mother on Mother’s Day?
To show how much you
appreciate her unconditional love, you could pay a visit to your mum, take her
out to somewhere special or buy her something she’s been longing to have. You
could send gifts, cards or place a long special call to your mum if she isn’t close
by.
What can you do for
your wife on Mother’s Day?
This is a day to show
appreciation to your wife for all the sacrifices they’ve made to be a good wife
and hardworking mum. Let her take the day off, you can kick off the day by
serving her breakfast in bed, you can also take her somewhere special for lunch
or dinner and you could involve the kids to make a special gift for their mum.
Here’s wishing every
mum and mum to be “Día de la Madre feliz”. (Hey! I’m still in Naija), that’s just saying “Happy
Mother’s Day” in Spanish. May all the
love you give to others come back to you on this special day. Have a great mother’s
day.
So, how are you
celebrating you mum today?
