Seen this blue big circle around?
It’s the sign for this year’s #WorldDiabetesDay (#WDD) Campaign with the theme “Eyes
on Diabetes”.
World Diabetes Day is
marked annually on the 14th of November largely to create awareness of
the increasing cases of diabetes in children and adults around the world.
Though the campaign lasts
the whole year, the main focus of the #WDD campaign led by the international diabetes federation is to
promote the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of Type2 diabetes
as immediate treatment will reduce the risk of complications.
According to the international diabetes federation, one in
two adults with diabetes is left undiagnosed causing them to be prone to complications arising from diabetes such as blindness, cardiovascular disease
and lower limb amputation. Careful management and screening for diabetic eye
disease can help prevent blindness and visual impairment.
Most importantly, early
detection and timely treatment is necessary in managing all types of
diabetes, thus reducing the impact of the condition on individuals, their
careers and the society at large.
Many people live with
diabetes without knowing their condition. Know your risk. Get tested.
